ABOUT US

We are a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) approved provider of disability services to adults with intellectual disability aged 18-64yrs, based in Gilgandra, in Western NSW.

Our organisation, in many forms, has been coordinating and delivering services in Gilgandra for people with disability, their families and carers since 1970, when we began as a small community-based committee called Koorabel.  As the committee disbanded, the services were delivered by a sub-branch of The Sub-Normal Children’s Association of NSW, later known as The Challenge Foundation.

When The Challenge Foundation ceased to operate in 1991, Gilgandra Shire Council stepped in to ensure these vital disability services stayed in our local community, and since 1991 we have operated under the auspices of Gilgandra Shire Council. In 2000 we had a name change to ‘Orana Lifestyle Directions’, and most recently we rebranded to become Orana Living.

Our Shire Council is incredibly supportive of the work we do, and the positive differences we make to the lives not just of our clients and their families and carers, but also to the lives of our staff, and members of our broader community.

In Gilgandra, as with most small rural communities, we care about each other. We take the time to enquire about the health and wellbeing of friends and families, neighbours and visitors. At Orana Living we embody our community’s values of care, support, inclusion, and respect in all that we do.

Our vision is to be the preferred provider of personalised supported accommodation services for people with an intellectual disability within the Orana Region of NSW.

Our purpose is to support people with disability to live a fulfilling life, connected to community and engaged in opportunities to learn and to live as independently as possible.

Our core services for adults with intellectual disability are:

  • provision of accommodation (shared residences, private dwellings, purpose built high support accommodation);
  • provision of supported living services; and
  • provision of life skills activities and community participation programs.

Our main administration office is located at 9 Eura Street, Gilgandra.

Our Life Skills Centre is located at 9 Byrne Avenue, Gilgandra.

We have a number of dedicated vehicles, including several accessible minibuses, to help transport our clients to appointments, work commitments, social engagements and special events.

We personalise our accommodation, supported living and activities and life skills programs to suit each individual and we encourage you to call us to find out how we can help you or someone you care about to live a fulfilled life through the services we offer.
